Japanese Wakizashi . SJ152

$16.95 $24.58
Japanese Wakizashi. One hole nakago (tang) unsigned (Mumei). Tsuka (hilt/handle) is damaged condition missing several parts. No cloth handle wrap (Ito) left. Also, missing kashira (end cap). However, does a nicely designed Fuchi (sword handle collar) with gilt highlights. Nice flower type design darkened copper tsuba with gilt highlights. Nice basic one-piece habaki (blade collar). Blade in nice condition with some wear and nice slightly wavy temper line. Black lacquered saya (wooden scabbard) in very worn and damaged condition with chipped and cracking. I believe to be Edo period blade and fittings. Blade length approximately 17 3/4 inches and overall length approximately 23 inches. Nice blade, however, has damaged condition handle and saya. Could be used as a project piece or parts piece.   Additional Notes: Wakizashi blades are typically between 12 inches to 24 inches or (30-60cm) or (between 1 and 2 shaku). The wakizashi (side inserted sword) is one of the traditionally made Japanese swords (nihonto) worn by the samurai in feudal Japan. Its name refers to the practice of wearing it inserted through one’s obi or sash at one’s side, whereas the larger tachi sword was worn slung from a cord. The Japanese sword fuchi is a key component of a Japanese sword’s hilt. It is a metal collar that fits snugly between the tsuka (handle) and the tsuba (hand guard). The fuchi serves several important functions such as structural stability, it secures the handle components, ensuring the tsuka-ito (handle wrap) doesn’t unravel and providing overall stability. It also provides aesthetic appeal, often intricately designed, the fuchi can be adorned with engravings, inlays, or other decorations, reflecting the craftsmanship and status of the sword. It also provides connection by complementing the tsuba and kashira (butt cap), creating a unified and visually pleasing look for the sword’s hilt.   See below in the Description area for a short video.   See Additional Information for shipping dimensions.
