In most English-speaking and Arabic-speaking countries, as well as a number of European and South American nations, second lieutenants usually wear one star (pip). Amcraft, short for American Craft Products, was a manufacturer based in Attleboro, Massachusetts, a city long known for its jewelry and metalwork industry. During WW2, Amcraft produced a wide range of military insignia, including cap badges, collar devices, and service pins. Their hallmark often included the words “Acid Test”, which indicated that the item had been triple gold-plated, a process that allowed it to pass a nitric acid test for authenticity and durability. One of their distinctive features was the “snowflake” or “starburst” pattern on the reverse of many insignia pieces, especially pre-war and WW2 era items. Collectors often seek out these marks as indicators of quality and historical value. See Additional Information for shipping dimensions.
