Hexastylis arifolia (Heart-leaf, Wild Ginger, Little Brown Jugs)

$14.66 $24.48
Description This 6″-`12″ native evergreen ground cover produces jug-shaped flowers in the spring. The leaves and roots were used as a substitute for “true ginger” and as medicine. Plant in part to full shade in average to moist humus rich soil. Deer will sometimes eat a leaf or two but will generally ignore it. In containers, it does best in acidic soil and subirrigat in the ground t prefers acidic soil but I have seen it thriving among calcium loving plants. The pH seems to be more critical in pots than in the ground. We propagate our stock plants from a native population that we rescued from development in Beaufort County, SC in the 90’s.
